Early Sunday morning, we set out for the coast. The destination? Pacific City, a small beach town an hour and a half south of Cannon Beach.

After a lunch break for some delicious salads at Driftwood Restaurant and Lounge, we made a quick pit stop at Hug Point and started driving South. By the time we arrived in Pacific City, we were a bit hungry, and saved our spot in line for a brew at Pelican Brewery" and stopped by the local grocery store. Beer, cider, and fries were consumed with a wonderful view of the ocean. Feeling satisfied, we grabbed our shovels and left for the beach.

Team pic at the brewery!

One of my favorite beach activities is building a large circular sandcastle (really just a wall and a moat), while the tide is out, and seeing how long it will survive against the incoming tide. Molly was kind enougth to oblige my goofiness, even though my wall wansn't much good at slowing down the onslaught of wind coming off the dunes just North. When the tide rolled in and destroyed our castle, we started climbing the dunes looking for a good vantage point to watch the sunset.

The ocean overtakes our castle :(

As we sat at the top of the dunes waiting for the sun to set, we were entertained by a large whale swimming in a little cove close to the shore. It must have been looking for food, because it kept moving around the same small area for at least thirty minutes. The day drew to a close, and we were rewarded by a stunning sunset. Looking forward to exploring more of the Oregon Coast in the months ahead!
